How to run a live photo slideshow at your event
Set up a live slideshow that shows guest photos on a TV or projector as they are uploaded, what equipment you need, and how to keep it private.
A live slideshow turns guest photos into part of the evening. Someone uploads a photo from the dance floor and it is on the big screen a moment later. It can also remind guests where to share their photos. Here is how to set it up without technical stress.
What you need
- A screen: a TV at the venue, a projector, or a large monitor.
- A device to drive it: a laptop, a tablet, a phone with a cable, or a casting device such as Chromecast or Apple TV.
- Internet at the venue, Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot. The slideshow pulls new uploads continuously, so it needs a connection.
- Your event's upload page, which includes the slideshow.
Step by step
- Open the upload page of your event on the device that will drive the screen.
- Tap Slideshow. The page switches to a full-screen show that cycles through every photo and video as guests upload them.
- Send it to the screen. Use AirPlay or Chromecast, connect an HDMI cable, or simply put the device in full-screen on a connected display.
- Leave it running. New uploads, likes and comments appear automatically. Nobody needs to refresh anything.
Why the slideshow runs from the upload page, not the gallery
The upload page is designed to be shown publicly during the event. The private gallery, where you and your co-organizers see everything, deliberately cannot be cast or shared. That protects guests from having a photo projected that they did not expect, and keeps the full collection in your hands. If you want a private slideshow afterwards, the gallery has its own, for you only.
Practical setup tips
- Test the connection at the venue an hour before guests arrive. Hotel Wi-Fi with a login page is the usual culprit, so have a hotspot as backup.
- Place the screen where people linger, near the bar or at the edge of the dance floor, not behind the head table.
- Upload a few photos yourself before guests arrive so the screen is never empty.
- Mention it once. A line from the MC, "scan the code on your table and your photo will show up here," is enough.
- Dim the screen brightness for evening events so it does not light up the room.
Does it work for birthdays and company events?
Yes. The same upload page and slideshow work for any event. At company events, it is a simple way to make a large room feel like one party. At birthdays, it is a crowd favourite during the cake.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need special software for the live slideshow?
No. The slideshow is built into the event's upload page and runs in a browser. Casting uses the standard features of your device, such as AirPlay, Chromecast or an HDMI cable.
Can guests see each other's photos on the screen?
Yes, that is the point of the live slideshow. If you prefer guests not to see uploads, keep the live feed disabled in the event settings and use the private gallery slideshow afterwards instead.
What if the internet drops during the event?
The slideshow needs a connection to fetch new uploads. Keep a phone hotspot ready as a backup. Uploads that guests make while the screen is offline still arrive in your gallery.
