Wedding photo sharing app vs QR code gallery
Should guests install an app or scan a QR code to share wedding photos? A plain comparison of uptake, quality, privacy and cost.
Most wedding photo sharing tools fall into two families. The first asks guests to install an app. The second gives guests a QR code that opens an upload page in the browser. The difference sounds small and decides how many photos you actually receive.
The uptake problem with apps
Every step between "I took a nice photo" and "it is in the couple's gallery" loses guests. An app adds several: find it in the store, download it, open it, create an account or enter a code, grant photo permissions. Older guests and anyone with a full phone drop out early. Test the installation steps with your guests rather than assuming how many will participate.
A QR code removes all of those steps. The phone camera recognises the code, the upload page opens, and the guest picks photos. The whole thing takes under a minute the first time and seconds after that.
Side by side
| App | QR code gallery | |
|---|---|---|
| Guest setup | Install, account or code | Scan, done |
| Works on any phone | Only where the app exists | Any phone with a camera and browser |
| Photo quality | Check the specific product | CCM keeps original uploads |
| Videos | Check formats and limits | Supported; check current upload constraints |
| Messages and voice notes | Check the specific product | Supported by CCM |
| Live slideshow | Check the specific product | Supported by CCM; device compatibility varies |
| Privacy | Depends on the app | Private gallery, host controls access |
| Cost model | Product-dependent | CCM uses one-time event packages |
Where an app can still make sense
If you want push notifications to guests, or you are running a multi-day conference with scheduling features, a dedicated app may earn its place. For a wedding, a birthday or a company party, the extra features rarely outweigh the lost uploads.
Privacy, which matters more than people expect
Guests are sharing photos of other guests. A private gallery that only the hosts and their co-organizers can open is the right default. Guests see the upload page and, if you allow it, the live feed, but the full gallery stays with you. Check that whatever tool you choose does not make galleries public or searchable.
Cost over time
Pricing depends on the product, not whether it uses an app or a QR code. Compare one-time payments, subscriptions and any additional charges against the upload and storage periods you need. Compare the storage period, not just the price, and download a backup when it ends.
What Capture Core Moments does
Capture Core Moments is a QR code gallery. Guests scan or open a link and upload photos, videos, voice notes and written messages from their browser into one private gallery. Hosts run a live slideshow, sort uploads into albums, invite co-organizers and download originals as a ZIP. Packages are paid once per event, and a free trial lets you test the flow before the day.
Frequently asked questions
Is a QR code gallery secure?
The gallery is private to the host and invited co-organizers. Guests only see the upload page. Galleries are not indexed by search engines.
Can guests upload later, after the wedding?
Yes, as long as the event's upload period is still running. Share the link again in your thank-you message to collect the photos people forgot on the day.
Does it work for guests without a smartphone?
They can send photos to you afterwards and you can add them to the gallery yourself, or a friend can upload for them from their own phone.
